For those that do not have (or want) Secunia running full time on their machines this online checker will scan your machine for out of date or insecure programs and missing Windows updates.
There are 2 scans available , Quick or In Depth.
SECUNIA ONLINE CHECK (http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/?inclusion=1&task=load&rp_id=heiseuk)

Thanks Adrian - threw up a couple of out-of-dates - notably Adobe and Apple products, both set to auto update, but never do!

Hi Colin, I have this little updater from Filehippo on my desk top.Just click on it every week or so and it will tell you which software needs updating on your pc,you can then download/install the relevant software via their site. :)

I am not a fan of auto updates, I like to see what is being added to my machine. Even Windows/MS are on manual install. My only exceptions are Malwarebytes and Avast!.

I've just used your hippo-updater Unc ...and a couple of things need updating, which I am currently sorting out.... however ..there is one, AMD Catalyst Driver, a very large download (as it is quite out of date :-[ ) this has never shown up before, hence it's not been dealt with before ! What I need to know is do I need to oust anything before I install. The download is done, but I don't just want to press GO ;D if I need to do something first. Thank you for any help :)

The update "should" tell you if the old driver needs removing first. I use nVidia and that will remove the old versions first where needed.
Make a restore point before you do anything else ( Windows should do this before you install anything large but.......... ) and see what happens when you hit the install button.

Thank you Adrian ... I'm just going out, but will follow your instructions when I get back ... and then may shout HELP ! ;D

With graphics cards I find it best to unistall, reboot and install the newer version.
It is the only one I would do that with by choice.

Thanks Phil - will download as soon as I have finished my DIY project that was going to take 10 minutes and so far has taken 3 hours - putting right a bodge job the previous house owner did. >:(

Now here is where I lose my bravado ;D I have created a restore point. I went on to the AMD site to see how to remove pre-existing drivers in XP as follows ...
Click on Start
Open the Control Panel
Select Add or Remove Programs
From the list of Currently installed programs, select ATI - Software Uninstall Utility
If ATI-Software Uninstall Utility is not listed in Add/Remove Programs, first remove ATI Catalyst Control Center then remove the ATI Display Drivers
Click 'No' when prompted to restart the system
Empty the Windows Temp folder by going to C:\Windows\Temp\
Restart the system
I have found ATI Software Uninstall utility --clicked on remove ....then get the pop up box below. I chose the Recommended remove ?? I ignore the option to close and go to C Temp (see blow) am I on the right folder there, as there seems to be a lot in it to empty !! Do I just delete it ? OOOOOOOOOO do I really need this update ;D
