Plusnet have started doing self installs for FTTC from today for which they will be supplying the Home Hub 5A!
See http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,145603.0.html
-
I think Bob Pullen is already aware that the HH5A doesn't support G.INP.
-
no G.INP and notorious for dropping the ppp session for no reason... what the hell are they playing at? Plusnet seem to be going down the tubes.
-
Well BT have to get rid of their stock of duff routers somehow...
-
I'm a bit surprised actually, I read that the Technicolor 589nv3 and 589vac have managed to be "conditionally approved", so presumably that's some sort of conditional pass from the Openreach VDSL2 modem conformance testing. I assumed Plusnet would have gone with one of those.
Still no firmware update for G.INP down and up? :( I think someone is working on getting OpenWRT running on the HH5A, some soldering required to install it of course.
-
I suspect that jelv got it right. PlusNet is BT's bargain basement ISP.
-

G.INP does work on the HH5A Downstream only that is and the pppoe session drops for no reason well it seem to be every 14 days from this link https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/BTHH5-rebooting-every-14-days-Type-A-only/td-p/1549724 (https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/BTHH5-rebooting-every-14-days-Type-A-only/td-p/1549724)
-
Did you ask Bob Pullen? He knows if it does or not.
-
Good grief. Bargain basement indeed.
Im with jelv - re duff routers.
-
Re Bob Pullen
In the thread linked he stated It's been a while since I looked at the G.INP stuff, but the Hub One behaves the same way as a model A BT Home Hub v5 in this respect (compatible on the downstream but not on the upstream?).
Using a Hub One, my line is in sync at 19999 / 79906 with a maximum attainable downstream of 88875kbp
-
I think if he replaces that with a HH5 type B his sync would be 79999.
-
Now I won't be using it but it just occurs to me that it might be a cheap way of getting 4 port (all Gigabit) VDSL switch with a/n/ac wireless if I could set it up to work off my 8800NL in bridge mode
Is this liable to be possible
-
I seem to have a good HH5A, mind you my printer keeps losing the Wi-Fi connection.
1. Product name:BT Home Hub
2. Serial number:+xxxxxxxxxxx
3. Firmware version:Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.204.1.11 (Type A) Last updated 06/07/15
4. Board version:BT Hub 5A
5. DSL uptime:19 days, 21:10:58
6. Data rate:20000 / 79995
-
The HH5 will function as a router only with a bridge modem plugged into its WAN port.
-

You may be able to see in the event log that the printer keeps on connecting to and disconnecting from the wifi.

another step in the upcoming BT and plusnet merger then.
-
It would seem so,I'm glad i left them when i did,
-
another step in the upcoming BT and plusnet merger then.
??? You've lost me there, Chrys ????? BT acquired (merged ??) with PlusNet back in Jan 2007. Is there something else afoot that I know not of ?? :-\
-
It's a two-way street - Plusnet's customers will share the advantage of the HH5 and BT's customers will share the delights of Plusnet's traffic management  >:D
-
Ah I see now ……. you mean the word on the street is that BT Retail ISP and Plusnet ISP will likely merge sometime in the future ?? :)
-
Maybe Toto has something to do with it

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain
-
What man ?? ;)
-
BS I mean brand merger.
-
When Plusnet was acquired the thinking was obviously so that the BT group could compete with Sky and TalkTalk on price while still charging all the people who had been with BT for donkey's years are were not going to move the expensive prices. That has now changed and we see more aggressive marketing from BT Retail.
However there are a lot of people who for various reasons want to be as far away from anything to do with BT as possible. It comes as a shock to some of them to find out Plusnet is owned by BT. For that reason alone I don't think we'll see a brand merger any time soon.
-
BT announce new call UK call centres, Plusnet start using BT Home Hub.
Definitely sounds like a merger to me! Where is an easy place to get a huge UK call centre from!
-
Looking at the latest BT Fibre offering 80/20 £21.67 per month equivalent for 12 months whereas Plusnet offer is £10.00 a month for 6 months then £19.99 a month so Plusnet are still significantly cheaper providing your exchange isn't Market A

I doubt Plusnet's call centre(s) is/are anything like big enough for BT - they can't (acording to many users feedback on their forums) answer calls from the much smaller Plusnet userbase in a reasonable timescale.
As long as PN and BT Retail are both profitable there's no point in 'merging' as running two separate brands is likely to give significantly more market share.
Weren't BT buying a UK mobile operator? EE? Don't they have a large UK call centre?
Sorry to add to the OT discussion :(
I thought (in their advertising at least) BT claimed the HH5 was to (ISP supplied) routers as Sunblest was to bread?

Yes it is. Same with other Broadbcom chipset based devices.

Must admit, I know nothing of this problem. I can categorically tell you though, that I've had PPP sessions nailed up for well over 14 days using the device.
