Hi DogFox and welcome,

You need to go through the items covered in here:-

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

and also enter your data in here

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php

and report back.

There is every possibility that you are on a long line and that your actual downstream attenuation is significantly higher than the maximum which can usually be displayed of 63.5 dB

Can you also tell us what caused the modem to resync at a higher synchronisation speed ?

Kind regards,
Walter

Thank you waltergmw.

I am at my knowledge boundary here.

I have read through the kitz links & established that I have an NTE5 A
faceplate with an adsl splitter faceplate mounted on top (2007 model)
whichfilters out the bell circuit

I connected the router into the NTE5A base test point which meant that I was getting my stats with the bell circuit connected...which accounts for the lower resynch speed.

Here are extractions from the line checks:-
Distance:- Direct:    4.16 km
  (appx)* By Road: 5.79 km
  Status
 ADSL enabled: October 13, 2004
DSL Max enabled:  March 31, 2006
 SDSL enabled : Not Enabled
 21CN due : (PSTN) N/A
 21CN WBC (Broadband) Not available31.03.11
  Broadband Access† Market 1

BT Line Speed Estimation

Fixed ADSL:  1024 kbps (1 Mb)
DSL Max:   1000 kbps (1 Mb)
  21CN WBC : Not Available

 RAG Test Results

Fixed:  Long line green for 1Mbps, Red for 2Mbps
 radsl:  512Kbps and 256Kbps available
 MAX:  ADSL Max is available
 TPON:  No info in database
Check:  The check identified another service on your line which may prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection. Examples are : Existing adsl connection, DACs, LLU, TPON etc

Currently my throughput speed is 1.4Kbps

I hope that is all relevant ?

Your help is much appreciated  :)

Hi DogFox,

I think with that approximate line length your performance is probably near the best you can expect.

If you wished to invest in a 2Wire 2700HGV from Amazon or E-bay you might squeeze just a bit more.

Note also that the bell cct. starts from the master socket so it is not involved in your case, assuming you put a filter in the test socket.

Anybody else with any more comments?

Kind regards,
Walter

I can only agree with Walter's assessment. As he says, if you're connecting the router to the test socket, then the bell wire isn't connected, and you have the best possible situation. You might squeeze a little more out of it with a 2700HGV, although this isn't certain. It's renouned for its good performance on long lines.

My only comment (as a user of a Netgear DG834Gv5) is that you might see an improvement by setting your DG834Gv4's ADSL mode to "G.Dmt" rather than the default of "Auto".

Thank you for the helpful replies.

I will try burakkucat`s method on the router.
