Hi all,
Trying to setup my friend's wireless network to work with his new 40" Sony Bravia TV with a UWABR-100 USB Wireless adaptor I ran into problems thus:
The router is an old Belkin F5D7632-4 Ver 1000EA. Don't know the firmware release.
Vista laptop can connect to Internet via Ethernet cable fine.
With no wireless encryption can connect OK from Win XP and Win Vista laptops.
When I enable WPA encryption the XP laptop connects fine, but both Vista and the Sony Wireless adaptor report
connection refused. The log on the Belkin shows connection attempts, but is otherwise unintelligible to me.
Vista also fails to connect with 128 bit WEP encryption. (Didn't try XP with WEP).
The Belkin's WPA setup shows that the wireless uses TKIP encryption.
I know that there is a more recent and secure encryption called AES, but the Belkin doesn't offer a choice.
I am wondering if the Wireless drivers in Vista and the Sony don't support TKIP, only AES.
Yet the Sony sees the network and correctly identifies it as "WPA (TKIP)".
Any thoughts on the matter?
I did wonder if a newer version of firmware might help; maybe allowing the Belkin to use AES encryption.
Found the firmware OK, but there are no release notes.
