What the DGTeam firmware offers (mainly) is a lot of extra features, not any improvement in ADSL performance. They use the Netgear ADSL drivers, not specially written ones.

Might be some progress.
Got puppy linux running on the laptop,  this is part of response to the nftp command:

sending frame on eth0 (0:17:42:18:44:61:b6)
Router is a DG834PNB
Current version is 00
Max upgrade size is 65572Kb
Could not find "magic hardware header" in this image.
Uploading this is not recommended'

I thought all Sky branded netgear routers of this type were GT's so do I need PNB firmware and I haven't a clue about the  "magic hardware header" bit.

Hello everybody, I'm resurrecting this old thread while trying to resurrect my dg834(g)v2...

Flashing the dgteam firmware via the web panel (cabled) went wrong, the procedure was still in progress after an hour and I unplugged the router. Now it boots up, detects plugged cables (led is green when connected to a working pc, amber if the pc is turned off). Tried resetting the router, tried the NFTP Command Line from the usb puppylinux as per dgteam tutorial, but all I get too is

sending frame on eth0 (mac address)
network is down

Brainfade if you read this how did you get past the network down error?

I'm on windows 7 machine, do I need to install the network card drivers for linux?

Anybody?

thanks

edit, the firmware I was trying to flash is version 1022 I found here:

Puppy Linux (and other similar Linux live CDs) include drivers for most of the popular network cards and install them automatically, so you don't have to do anything special. If it doesn't have the driver for your particular machine, it may not be possible to install it from an external source.

If you can get access to a Windows XP machine, you might find it less trouble to use the Netgear recovery utility instead.

ok thanks, just found out FW 1022 is the problem, neither the flashing or the driver, in fact I flashed it to 849 and it works!  >:D

to recap, fixed the network down issue by activating the network interface by sending this command (prior to ./nftp -u eth0 name.img )

ifconfig eth0 up

got the clue from this excellent (alt method) guide:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=16607842&postcount=153

ps ifconfig is also the reply to the guide's final line  :)

I thought 1018 was the latest "tested" version.........
Not sure about 1022 as the Forums are closed at present but I vaguely recall it was a fix to a specific problem but not a proper release.

1018 was latest but I think it had issues or it did when I used it.

1022 is available again via the DGTeam site downloads, but with no explanation....... :-X
1018 is clearly stated there as the latest and is also available for your router.

I think it may be a good idea to give the 1022 a wide birth for a while.
