Problems with Orange and my IP profile again!!!!!!
« on: July 23, 2010, 06:35:34 PM »

About a year and a half ago I had a stuck IP Profile it went down from 7150kbps to 2000kbps, after numerous phone calls I eventually convinced Orange to ask BT to unstick the profile and again it rose to 7150kps.

All has been fine and dandy until 3 weeks ago when the connection went down completely.
I phoned Orange and reported the fault, they inturn said it would take up to 24 hours to correct the problem.
The fault was indeed fixed within the 24 hours but now my speed has dropped.

These were my stats before the fault:

ADSL firmware version :    A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode :    G.DMT
Type :    Fast
Noise margin (dB) :    8.6
Attenuation (dB) :    33.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) :    8832
ADSL status :    Connected

Downstream    Upstream
Rate (kbps)    8128    448

and the speedtester info
Test Results
Testl comprises of two tests
1.   Best Effort Test: - provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1823 kbps

And now these are the stats after the 'fix':

A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode :    G.DMT
Type :    Interleave
Noise margin (dB) :    14.5
Attenuation (dB) :    35.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) :    6592
ADSL status :    Connected

     Downstream    Upstream
Rate (kbps)    6016    448

and the speedtester info
Your DSL Connection Rate :6016 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 5000 Kbps
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4370 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.

So I have phoned Orange several times again armed with my evidence, but so far they have achieved diddly squat.

Since then I have also noticed my line has been re-graded by BT Wholesale, it now says:
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 5Mbps.
It did say 8Mbs 2 weeks ago

As I'm not in a long term contract anymore, I am thinking of changing to O2 broadband and seeing if I get better service.

Does anyone know, if I change my ISP will I also get my 7150kbps IP profile back?

Any help would be appreciated

Hi   :)

Unfortunately! - Can't answer your questions about IP Profile .. Coz I've always been on LLU
So... Know absolutely Nowt about IP Profiles

If I was in your position...
I'd Stick my Postcode in SamKnows Exchange Checker: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search
And I'd pray that it tells me... O2 / Be  LLU Available  8)

NOT .. O2 Access  ... That's Not What You Want!

Good Luck!

If I understand you correctly, from the above it would seem that you had a problem before the fault occurred because the router was synced at 8128kbps.

There is still a noise problem as the SNRM is now 14.5dB and Interleave has been turned on.

If you have an NTE5 main BT socket then try plugging the router into the test socket behind the removable lower half faceplate and check the stats again.

Why is that a problem syncing at 8128kbps?
Isn't that a good speed?

With the data you supplied, sync speed = 8128kbps; IP Profile = 7150kbps the throughput speed should have been around 6800kbps not 1823kbps.

Hi
From your original stats  I think you may have been confusing Synch  rate ,That is the rate that you connect to the exchange, and throughput that is the actual download of data rate from your ISP. the latter is governed basically by 2 parameters .
!the IP profile , that is the maximum throughput you can expect having taken into account the necessary overheads ,and the amount of contention experienced on your line .

Originally you had the maximum synch rate for your Connection .(8MAX)

quote Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kb ps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1823 kbps
.

Your actual problem was nothing to do with your connection or your IP profile .

It seems to have been Contention that is too many users for the bandwidth available . This could be at your exchange or on Orange's network.

There was no need to do anything to your actual connection!!. The contention problem should have been investigated ,Unfortunately The actual throughput was within the  "normal " parameters so BT would NOT be concerned ,and Orange would probably not be concerned .

The FIX , whatever that was just made matters worse .
quote :
Type :    Interleave
Noise margin (dB) :    14.5
Attenuation (dB) :    35.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) :    6592

You had a fast connection now interleaved this can limit  the max Synch rate

quote from Kitz

Note: although BT state 7616 is maximum sync speed with interleaving, many instances of higher sync speeds have been reported by users. This is dependent upon your router being able to support S=1/2 mode which effectively combines two RS code words  into a larger logical code word of 510 bytes (ANSI T1.413).

One odd thing is the increase in Attenuation . That should not normally happen. Have you had some problems you have not mentioned ?

It looks as if your SNR margin has been increased to 15db. Unless you have had disconnection problems then this should not have happened . But its easily costing you 1200Kbps synch rate .

Was this forced by Orange  in a mistaken attempt to sort a non existent Synch rate problem?

Can I ask Orange to reduced the SNR margin and to put me back on fast connection?

Would the Orange support staff know what I am on about?
I could do with speaking with Orange from Middlesbrough but when I phone the number there is no reply.
