How camera lenses are made
« on: January 23, 2011, 06:55:37 PM »

You might find this film interesting and a bit surprising. I had imagined that the process was all automated and computer controlled, and it was a big surprise to see how much operator skill comes into it.

Very interesting. Thank you Roseway. Now you know where the money is in a good camera.

I think I was about 18 then. I thought we were going to have the photo shot the next day, those clothes where what I had on under the overalls. And yes the trousers are a sort of silver, well it was the 80's
I used to have literally 100's of photos from those days, including many from the Amateur Astronomy centre near Bacup in Lancashire. Lost touch with all that and was supprised how little it seemed to have developed scince those days. Mind you I have not been that way in many years so I have not seen the centre from close up. I still remember vividly a talk given by Peter Drew at the Luton Astro society in 1982 about the ideas of setting up such a site.
The company was well known for the cats on the premises. I had to look after them as part of my job, found I was a cat type of person. Hence the company logo which I originaly drew in 6th form college.
got to know David Hinds who at that time was known for the fabulous quality of mirror optics he made which was the staple of the scopes we made. Ahh those where the days.
