Line quality data
« on: December 29, 2009, 06:06:30 PM »

Is the line quality data supplied by the DSLAM?  I have a curiosity: the TX power values for both downstream and upstream are 0db.

The connection is very good : -
downstream SNRM 13db, upstream SNRM 23db
downstream attenuation 35db, upstream attenuation 24db
downstream bitrate 6240kbps, upstream bitrate 448kbps

So everything in the garden is lovely and the anomaly is probably unimportant?

@ Hake,

I suspect there is a data reporting bug as you are clearly have non-zero power levels.

Kind regards,
Walter

It's a reporting error. Probably the result of some incompatibility between the router and the DSLAM.

The TX power data was reported with sensible values early yesterday and the router type was the same (including firmware version) when the anomaly was noticed later the same day.

>>>downstream attenuation 35db, upstream attenuation 24db

What is your reported attenuation normally like?  The upstream attenuation seems a bit on the high side in relation to the downstream.

The attenuation figures are pretty much the same as they have been over the past few months and have, I believe, been around those values since 2006.

Hi

quote from Kitz  ~ Output power
The amount of power transmitted from the exchange and your modem. Output power will likely increase depending on the length of your line (loop loss).

I am not sure but I think that its from router  upstream and from exchange Downstream .

Yes, but it doesn't go down to 0 dBm - that's only 1 mW, which is far too little for practical ADSL use.

Id say its got to be a reporting error...  it wouldnt work at 0dBm

I should really rewrite that now that more lines are using adsl2+ as the above applied to adsl1 / max dsl.
With adsl2+ most lines are now running to their full capabilities and therefore even short lines will now see increases in their output power.

Hi
If it wasn't for the fact that its just happened after working normally I would have asked if it was a speedtouch 330 usb  modem . That always reported 0 . It worked ok .
