Changing Orange Livebox for another router
« on: December 07, 2009, 08:20:18 PM »

My ISP is Orange and I am using the Livebox. I have my XP desktop connected with ethernet cable. This works fine, no problems. When I try to connect my Vista Laptop wirelessly sometimes it will connect ok, other times it wont. Sometimes after it has connected it drops out after a while. Also, if I move the laptop downstairs it can't connect wirelessly at all.  I've also just got myself a Nokia phone with wifi built in and that wont connect either.  I'd like to change the Livebox for one of the latest N type Belkin modem/routers. Will it be possible to do this ?  Would I need permission from Orange ?  Will I need any settings from Orange or will I be able to just unplug the Livebox and plug the new router in ? Any advice or guidance on this would be most appreciated.

You can use your own router..  you just need to run the config settings and then enter your username and password for your orange account.
You dont need their permission to do this, but keep hold of the livebox in case orange ever ask about it.

The other settings you need are on this page

Kitz......Many thanks for the reply. I'll probably go ahead and try another router. What do you reckon to the Belkin N type ? Are any other ones better ? If I go ahead and do this and encounter any problems with the setup would I be able to just plug the Livebox back in and get back online ? Thanks.
