Avast anti virus
« on: November 26, 2009, 06:52:06 AM »

For the good Kitizens who may be using Avast Home or Avast Pro versions 4.8.1356............please note that there is an important program update issued to correct a serious security vulnerability.

Auto update should find it...if not go manual ans ensure that you update to version 4.8.1367.

ps......quite why the version number has jumped from 1356 to 1367, I know not.

Thanks TD.  I've just updated.  I know that with Avast! the virus database automatically updates daily but the main program has no auto-update feature.  I try to remember once a week to check for program updates but it is nice to get a reminder when there is an update available.  I use Filehippo Update Checker too which I find very useful but, of course, it does not cover all programs and Avast! is not one that is included in the update check.  :)

@ jazz...this is a very good site to keep an eye on, it lists the latest update situation on just about every program you can think of...certainly all the security ones.

There is available yet another program update for Avast.......taking the version number up to 4.8.1368

Not sure if anyone will be interested.....the last update to version 1367 apparently knocked out the progam compatibility with Windows 95/98 and this latest update restores that.

At least it is good to note that the Avast team are still providing "cover" for these older systems.

Mine "auto-updated" to version 1368 this morning so perhaps they are actually pushing out the latest version to all users automatically.
