ccleaner
« on: July 15, 2009, 03:25:09 PM »

It's possible I'm seeing threats where none exist but I attempted to download ccleaner today so I could run it on my daughter's PC and the download site I found with Google threw up something called Regcure. I then did what I should have done originally and used the update tab in my old copy of ccleaner and got version 2.21.940. I think the Google found site is http://ccleanerdownload.org and the "real" one is http://www.ccleaner.com. Probably all the admins and experts here know about this but this does seem a bit naughty!

A Google search will give various sites that ccleaner is available from. As with all sites offering downloads, you need to be aware exactly what you are downloading. Some sites tend to be deliberately misleading and you end up downloading something like Regcure..........which you certainly do not want.
I had no problem with either site you mentioned though the second does offer various download sites.

Thanks for your response Exo. I tried the cleanerdownload.org site again today and it's now quite difficult to find Regcure! I'm fairly sure it's not me and that the page links have now been amended. Otherwise put it down to softening of the brain with age! Sorry to start an eventually pointless thread but it might have caught someone.
