I've split this into a new topic.

If the upgrade has reset the router to its default setup, I believe that the username will be Administrator (with a capital A) and the password is blank. Otherwise it ought to be the same as it was before the upgrade.

Just in case Eric's suggestion doesn't work...

...It's a while since I played with my 585 V7, but I seem to recall that the default password was, at some point, the router's serial number as printed on the label on the back.  Not sure whether that was something it generated during installation, or if that's the way it left the factory.  I never tried flashing it so don't know what effect that has on passwords.

As Eric stresses, watch out for the capital A on username.  Being linux inside, it's naturally case-sensitive and same applies to any letters that appear in the serial number.

Is there still a problem with the TG585v7 and Internet Explorer 7+, whereby IE won't log into the router even if you specify the username and password correctly?

Worthwhile trying in a different browser e.g. Firefox

If Firefox logs in, then you can remedy the situation by following the instructions on this page under the section "Cant log in with IE7"

There was a problem with mine, vintage October 08 or thereabouts, prompting you for passwords at odd times, and not accepting the password I knew to be correct.  Sorry I don't know what f/w I had.  Neither do I remember the exact problem or the details, but I got around it somehow with IE7 as that's all I had available.

Thanks for the speedy response.

You certainly know your stuff.

If I login to the router, can you tell me where I can locate the firmware version?

Thanks

Just a point about flashing routers.

I have read that it is not a good idea to flash a router that has been preset by an ISP. Do you agree? Do Plusnet preset their routers in this way?

Thanks

Hmm

There is a Gentleman from PlusNet (James Bailey) on the forums somewhere. Some ISP's have custom F/W's to stop the Customer using it elsewhere and this can have undesireable effects if the modems F/W is not updated properly.

Have an ask of James, he'll be able to tell you if it is custom F/W or not. It should be basic F/W but see how you go.
