You're so close (although not geographically). It's a loch in the Scottish Borders.

PS: It's quite beautiful, a nature reserve.

Just to summarise the clues:

Avian = female chicken
fertiliser = what comes out of the back end

The answer is a loch in a nature reserve in the Scottish Borders.

I have scoured nature reserves in the Scottish borders region and so far nothing connects with your clue,

Good gracious, I've never heard of that one before........my atlas, too, is now in the skip...........had to resort to the dreaded google for that one.
