It's quite a worry the way children are growing up with a lack of respect.
In a child's eyes, an adult has to earn their respect - now I don't mind that at all, lets face it some adults deserve no respect whatsoever. What I do mind is the way they now behave towards adults before they decide that the adult has 'passed the test'.
A lot of these kids are
brought dragged up in a way that teaches them no morals, no basic compassion, no sensitivity, no sense, because they are left to their own devices, young parents will go out and leave them, we've got kids at the school whose parents have various harmful addictions - what fit state are they in to bring up a child and teach them right from wrong?
And don't get me started on primary school - this is not in any way aimed at primary school teachers, who I think do a fabulous job in the main. But, the ever-changing government led teaching ideas etc are basically turning primary schools into nurseries for up to 11 year olds. They can pretty much do what they want, whenever they want - and they learn this. So when they come to secondary school, and are suddenly expected to sit quietly whilst the teacher explains something, some of them simply don't know how to do that.
So unfortunately a combination of discipline (or lack thereof), added to the fact that I've noticed a sharp demise in my lifetime of respect for people's possessions - along with the fact that children do seem to have / exercise too many rights
over the wrong people, is worrying on a few counts:
1. Scumbag kids are running riot more than ever before, and nobody can seemingly do anything about it. Unfortunately some kids, however much you do for them, have been programmed wrongly too early and would need drastic measures (think dog borstal for kids!) to get them back on track.
2. This has been happening for long enough that some of the same type of kids we're referring to, are now adults themselves! Scary.
3. Some people (not necessarily referring to people on the forum, just in general) are in danger of tarring all children with the same brush. This is also scary in two ways - one that most kids are still actually pretty normal, and two that 'borderline' kids who could go either way, are seeing this general attitude towards kids, and decide (using the very limited logic they have) well, they won't give me a chance anyway, so I might as well go and have some fun with me mates, "playing" in people's gardens.
All in all, we as a country do have a bit of a problem with some children, there just aren't the measures in place to deal with it effectively. Police would rather be out catching motorists driving 33mph, it's safer, easier and a lot more return for investment. But don't get me started....
