Best modem/router for GUI
« on: April 28, 2023, 04:57:52 PM »

What is your best modem/router for GUI? And why?

I found the GUI of Draytek a bit 80s/90s in style, whereas that of the Zyxel quite clunky and slow. Fritzbox's is not too bad.

What's your experience? Screenshots welcome.

I've always been pretty happy with the old style ZyXel GUI. It's easy enough to use and generally reasonably responsive. Why they decided to update it a few years ago I do not know as the new one just seems harder to use to me, but then I'm generally a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' type of person.
I did have a Netgear some years ago and the GUI on that was ok too, unlike Technicolor whose GUIs, in my experience, are awkward and sluggish.

I too liked the old Zyxel GUI.

But I have got used to the new one, especially since it is on new Zyxel kit.
    - see attached screenshots of new and old.

The menu items are the same, but in a menu on the right hand side instead of across the bottom. The content is also very much the same.

It is also the same look and feel when I updated the firmware in my venerable Zyxel VMG1312-B10D in Q4 2020.
                  - I wanted the bug fixes, and the new GUI came with it.

Cheers,
    Tony

I agree. Quite difficult to find what you are looking for in the menus. The main downside for me was that practically any parameter change required a reboot of the router. Not ideal.
I'm currently running a MikroTik router and find the GUI menu structure quite intuitive. There is also a Windows app and one for mobile devices.
