G.fast reconnection
« on: January 05, 2022, 02:58:35 PM »

Happy New Year to everyones here. Got question to ask about G.fast reconnection - when is the best time to do it - 1am or 1pm or 6am or 6pm?

My G.fast was reconnected at 2:32am with higher sync at 238/38 on the 31st December 2021 but at 8:33am the sync rate drop to 235/37. I seen the speed was 241/41 around 8:32am (only for short period of 15 mins then it revert back to 235/37) I can see SRA has checked every 15 minutes as SNR jump 3.1dB to 3.4dB for few seconds then back to 3.1dB to changed the sync rate every 15 minutes all day - is this normal?

2:32am to 8:32am 238/38
8:32am (15 minutes) 241/41
8:33am to 2:31am 235/37

I have spoken to the isp about what happen to my 330/50 has disappear? The isp had contact Openreach on my behalf as the Openreach say that my line was very lucky to have a good line of over 230/34 as it well above the estimate for my line rate as snr was very good at 3dB and saying the 330/50 will never sold at the max rate for my line length to the g.fast cabinet. Openreach suggest me that 230/34 are well suited to my line from the cabinet as many others doesn't get this kind of speed more likely below that. So, the isp say I was very lucky to have a good line rate of little over 230/34 and there is nothing can changed to get 330/50. Openreach has checked my G.fast speed since May 2021 and suggest my estimate range of 210/29 to 230/34 for both summer and winter changed in sync rate.

New year - new you, mate. ;)

I'm disappointed though, you should have gone right back to a 56k modem connection and then started to work your way back up the ladder, through the fixed-rate/adaptive rate DSL connection etc etc ....

@ Black Sheep- thanks. Happy New Year too. I remember my first dial up on 28K modem then 56K modem then ADSL then ADSL2+ with dmt tool to force snr 3dB from the exchange to sync at 18Mbps from 12Mbps. lol

Oh well, not long until May 2022 then I will think very hard to decided with three options:

1) Stay on G.fast 330/50 but on rolling monthly no contract
2) Downgraded to G.fast 160/30 but no contract applied but downgraded speed one off fee will applied
3) Switch to BT home essentials FTTC 40/10 at £15 a month or FTTC 80/20 at £20 a month

Option 1 can be discounted immediately.

You don't need 350/50, you've never needed 350/50.

So is option 2 you don’t need that either.

You mentioned many times your financial position so why even consider anything other than 3

Sadly the ISP will not offer any discounted price on G.fast 330/50 as it will remain at £56.99 per month. But the ISP can offer me discount price on G.fast 160/30 as part of downgraded offer with no contract but will discuss later in May.

Yes it look likely I will go to BT home essentials FTTC 40/10 at £15 a month as it seem sensible because all the living cost has going up now with gas electricity approx £140 a month (up from £80) in April and all food price has gone up.

It uses Seamless Rate Adaptation (SRA) so there is no best time . The connection speed will go up and down on its own as the line conditions change. Just leave it alone and stop checking it!

I can see my router settings under DSL (can I untick SRA & FRA) as it might force dslam to stop using SRA & FRA? Will it work?

SRA and FRA are there to keep the optimum balance between speed and stability/errors so I think it would be a very bad idea to mess with those settings.
Your connection is more than fast enough for your needs so just leave it alone.

Ok I haven't touch it because I am not so sure. But thanks anyway. I leave the G.fast router well alone still ongoing connecting for 5 days 15 hours and 56 minutes.

The sync rate has dropped to 231/37 but still above btw estimate 230/34.

I thought you were going to stop all this nonsense, what hardship has this relatively small drop in speed caused you answer nothing stop checking your speeds and go and do something useful with your life like you promised you would in the last thread you made about your speeds.

I don't know why you pose these questions! No matter what advice everyone on here gives you, you just go ahead and do whatever is the latest stupid idea that has come in to your head.
