Web Site Hyperlinks Within Posts

I just keep an example of how to imbed a URL handy on the computer (mail drafts folder actually) and copy/paste/edit as appropriate. I do this so infrequently I can never remember the syntax.

--- Code: ---this old forum topic
--- End code ---

Tinyurl is a utility which allows you to convert long URLs to something much shorter for use in something like twitter; I've just taken advantage of that as tinyurl isn't one of the websites the forum software understands and therefore generates a preview.

How to do it:

* Copy the URL you want to insert in your post. E.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl6mPR5t6Dk
* Go to https://tinyurl.com/app
* Paste your URL and click Make TinyURL!
* Copy the TinyURL it has generated (https://tinyurl.com/b5tvrv28 in this example)
* Go to your post to construct the link inserting the TinyURL and a description (e.g. HOUSE GUEST (Pupsitting Part 1) in this example)

HOUSE GUEST (Pupsitting Part 1)
Result: HOUSE GUEST (Pupsitting Part 1)

You could, instead of the description, use the original URL:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl6mPR5t6Dk

which would give you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl6mPR5t6Dk

There are many alternative websites to tinyURL which you could use in the same way.

Go back to jelv's reply (# 6) and left click on the Quote tab to be found above right of the frame. Does that help you understand the technique?

@jelv:
Many thanks for the detailed explaination, much appreciated.

Afraid not, I am familiar with and use the "insert quote" facility to copy a complete post for insertion into an answer and I can certainly see the narative of the embedded URL produced, however still doesn't help with achieving "jelv's" example of "graphic less" hyperlinks.

Thank you for taking the trouble to respond, appreciated, as "jelv's" explanation is very clear and detailed, even I can now understand, I think the penny has finally dropped!
