VDSL Router recommendations please.
« on: October 20, 2019, 10:51:11 PM »

Can anyone please recommend a good VDSL router that works with BT's IPV6 and BT TV.  Thanks

Edit: More information to make it clearer, I want an all in one modem router, already have a Zyxel VMG8924 which I can’t get the IPV6 or my BT TV to work, have gone through numerous different settings and like other people in the forum it just won’t work. Plug in my BT Smart Hub and it works but I’m losing 5mb download over the Zyxel.

I'll suggest that you consider one of the ZyXEL VMGnnnn-B10A series. (Where nnnn is four decimal digits.) As I don't use a BT service, I'll let others suggest a particular ZyXEL device.

As you have asked about a router, I presume you would like a one-box CPE device?

I wonder if your problem with the VMG8924 could be due to the VLAN settings . . .

802.1q should be 101, as usual.
802.1p could be either 0, 1 or 2.

I seem to recall Kitz had a problem which was only resolved by changing the value of the 802.1p parameter. Unfortunately I can't find the reference . . . Perhaps others can assist?

Edited to add: I've just performed a forum search on the string "802.1p" and it has returned two pages of results. Maybe the answer is somewhere within.  :-\

Do we think that the ZyXEL when used as a router as opposed to just as a modem will support BT special services like telly ?

As for a good IPv6 router that supports BT TV what about the latest BT Homehubs ? Anything wrong with one of those ?

Could perhaps get one on eBay or just ask BT to send you one ?

I can't comment on BT TV but I know others on here have got it working with a VMG8924 (assume '-B10A' version as there are others). IPv6 certainly works on my VMG8924-B10A with BT internet, but it does have one quirk - it doesn't usually get an IPv6 connection following a reboot and needs the PPP session dropped and reapplied before it works. I do this by reapplying the VDSL settings (no need to change anything) and it seems to work every time.

Interesting mate, yes it is the B10A, will give that a try later. Am going to try and get my hands on a BT Smart Hub 2 as well to try against the Smart Hub 1 see if sync speeds any better.

Is there any chance you can take a screenshot of your VDSL settings page so I can compare to my settings please. I did come across some of your posts a while back when I was trying to get it working.

Will do, but it won't be until late this afternoon/early evening I'm afraid.
