Possible New Cabinet
« on: May 29, 2019, 08:35:47 PM »

Found this today,, worked out cable length is enough to get church,so does this mean there will be a new cabinet coming soon. :)
Found nothing on planning applications for one, but I & others have been having a lot of hassle with the existing cable routing, last year it got cut yet again, when trimming the ivy, where it goes through the wall.

All you can take from that is that they are pulling in some fibre.
It could be for some FTTP, an FTTPoD order or for an FTTC DSLAM.

What's your current PCP number and where is it located?

If they are installing another cabinet there will be a roadworks notification stating they are installing a DSLAM.

Are you hoping for an infill cabinet?

I've only ever seen them install infill cabinets to help cover properties who don't get "SuperFast" speeds (24Mb).

Having a quick look the majority of PCP 39 looks to be well covered by the existing cabinet.
Are there any parts of the cabinets coverage area that get sub 24Mb?

What's your current sync speed?
I take it that G.Fast pod is of no use to you?

If you currently get 30-40Mb+ then the chances of you being part of a network rearrangement are extremely slim.

Quite a lot of one estate has problems with speed issues, including me, speed as low as 12Mb one day maybe 40Mbps the next day,I managed to get my line move from front pole to back pole, now getting around 74Mbps.
As to G Fast, touchy subject, houses at bottom of lane can get it,(DSL Checker 303-166Mbps depending whether clean/impacted line) I can't get it due to silly cable routing adding about 150mtrs or so, to my distance to cabinet.

No chance of a new cabinet at a different location in the village then.
They would be  more likely to replace any damaged sections of cable causing issues than install an infill cabinet.

Infill cabinets are almost exclusively BDUK funded as they are very expensive and labour intensive jobs.
BDUK can only fund projects to cover more properties with SuperFast.

FTTP may be the next upgrade coming your way as the focus moves away from G.Fast.
