I was in the page https://kitz.co.uk/isp/ISP_rated.php and I clicked the Kitz logo in the top left corner, which is a link, and got a 404 error message from the site

Yes, I can confirm that also happens for me. So you are not alone.  :)

The page upon which I am ultimately placed is --

https://kitz.co.uk/index.htm

kitz:
It appeared to be happening on lots of pages and I am not quite sure what may have triggered it as I hadn't changed anything

I think it may date back to the site moving over to SSL, but I would have though that someone would have pointed out that quite a lot of the other links also stopped working, and I'm sure I would have noticed for some of them.

Hopefully it should all be working now.  Sorry it took a while, was struggling a bit to find the correct solution with a morphine head on and couldn't think clearly.  I managed to break the site several times first :(

Further site anomaly,

This morning my very long standing Windows desktop shortcut to the kitz forum which has always been:
http://forum.kitz.co.uk/
initially informed, to the effect "can not redirect properly" and took me to the main site index page:
https://kitz.co.uk/index.htm

Subsequent attempts to reach the forum using the same desktop shortcut took me directly to the main site index page but without displaying the initial warning.

From the main site index page, clicking the "forum" tab just refreshed the same page, did not open the forum index/login page.

Had to modify my forum shortcut to:
http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php
which now works as per original shortcut.

Edit:
Cross posted with kitz.

When I set up a web server with Apache, I automatically rewrote ‘extension’-like .endings of URLs so that if they were wrong things would just work. I aspired to switch to using ‘cool URIs’ that are extension-less for documents, that is getting rid of .html or .htm etc and especially death to .php, and instead always having /whatever/something-cool rather than /whatever/something-cool.html. It was a couple of lines of .htaccess with Apache iirc.

Sorry to hear about the morphine. I am on swigs of ‘oramorph’ (which sounds like morphine but I actually have no idea what is in it). It’s very good because it works very quickly. Janet was feeding it to me through the night so she is tired this morning.

Anyway, we can form a small club.
