On our local radio station it said you can get your vet to give you the prescription and you can take it to your local chemist and they can get the medicine for your pet at a cheaper cost.. ;)

>> best money I've spent this year (well nearly),

I totally agree Yorkie - its seems like a bit of an outlay at first, but its the only thing Ive found that does keep them clear.
A friend of mine never used it on her cats saying it was too expensive..  but then would spend a small fortune every other weeks with powders and sprays, which in the long run added up to more than I spend.

A tip yorkie - after youve been using it a while, you dont need to apply it every month and can start increasing the time span in between each application.  Even my vet admitted that it doesnt need doing monthly once they're used to it and as long as theres no infestation.

I was a bit late doing the 2 month dosage and only recently remembered that it was 10 weeks since I'd last treated them..  yet even though its "flea season", none of them had fleas - and believe me they are very easy to spot on chaz so I'd know if he had them.

Got this today - agreed its a good marketing tactic - but it also served as a reminder to me that I do need to order some more.

Thought others may also be interested before the price goes up

We have been informed by Merial, the manufacturers of Frontline Spot On (and a number of other popular products) that they will be putting their prices up to vets & pharmacies on the 1st of February 2009. This email is to let you know that we will have to do the same when our current stocks run out. We are going to order as much Frontline Spot On in at the low price as we can, but when the "cheap stock" runs out, our prices will have to go up too.

As some of you know I lost my cat last November, now I know it can be 3 months or more for the all clear, but I had been using Frontline and I'm fairly certain he was clean, yesterday I knocked a pile of paper on to the floor and damn me if a flea didn't jump on to them, there has been no signs up until now, got the vacuum out pretty quick and I hope it was just a one off that had been hiding under the settee.

@ Yorkie

Im no specialist on fleas, but it does seem strange that it should suddenly appear out of the blue.. I do recall that flea eggs can remain dormant over the winter months and hatch during warmer weather..  but in houses with central heating they can be active all year round.

So unless youve been living in the cold for the past 3 months and have only now turned on your heating I think its unusual.  On top of that if you'd been using frontline previously then a flea shouldnt have been able to have survived long enough to reproduce.
Has anyone been visiting recently who has pets?

Fleas have some sort of heat sensor and normally will jump straight at a warm target if its hungry.*

-------------------
Recalls the horrible incident I had when acting as executor for an estate and had to go in to do a valuation of the house and contents to arrange sale.  House had been shut up for a week and the owner previously had a dog.. the house was infested with now hungry fleas.  No joke once I walked in it was like a free season for the fleas... and you could literally see them jumping towards me and my assistant that had gone in with me.
I ran back outside and literally stripped off as much as I could to get them off my clothes... didnt stop them being transferred into my then brand spanking new car.  In the end the bank had to pay for my car to be fumigated... and the guy who went in with me actually ended up in hospital with septicaemia <sp?> from the bites.
