New Build - Address not showing up on ISP checkers
« on: March 26, 2018, 01:29:22 PM »

The new place I'm moving into is all built and ready, including all the phone line, socket etc. Its a new development of 12 flats over 2 buildings (6 and 6). However the address isn't showing up on any ISP's checkers.

Of the 12 flats only one is listed, which FWIW is in the other block, so I can use that to see what's available but obviously I can't order anything.

Zen told me I need to push the developer to get the address added to the Openreach database.
The developer has said there isn't anything else they can do.
I phoned BT (as the developer said speak to them) who have told me I need to add the address via the 'Report an incorrect or missing address' form on their website, which I have done but it looks like all the addresses are on there already so I don't think its that.

Any advice as to where I need to go in order to be able to get my BB live in the new place?

Cheers.

Get back to Zen to see if they have the option to generate a temporary ALK.

Quote
Please note that you can subsequently enter the details in the Match Address function for the unlisted
address, which can be used to create a temporary address key to use when processing the order
.

See section 3.4 here
Preceding sections also give some more info on this process.

Quote
For unknown addresses/ Greenfield sites, a temporary Bronze ALK is assigned and the address is stored
against it. If the address is available in any of the sources PAF, Address Base Premium and Pointer, a
temporary Silver ALK is generated. This temporary key can then be used to enter a new provide order in
the same way as a Gold ALK is used.

Zen don't seem to know what an ALK is then.

They're telling me now I need to book an engineer to come and connect the property, and pay the sum of £118 for the pleasure.

Any more ideas? Or is that the way it needs to go?

As it's a new property that hasn't previously had a line wouldn't a connection charge be expected?

My guess would be that you will have a connection charge regardless.

Usually this cost can be absorbed partially or wholly, by striking a deal with the ISP/CP by playing one of against the other, or negotiating a longer term contract, or by checking which ISP currently has an offer on ???

The big guns offer free connection charge.
I'm not so sure that Zen do.

Indeed that seems to be the case from the reading I've done since my last post.

I'm still in contract with Zen though unfortunately. Might have to see how much it is to leave the contract as that might be cheaper than the other options...

Cheers for the advice one and all.

Interesting that AAISP's line installation is half that of Zen's - but that is a line to be used for broadband only (no calls in or out).
