VDSL2 Line Noise and Speed Drop
« on: October 25, 2016, 03:24:41 AM »

Hi,

I was getting 100mbit down /40 mbit up, with no dropouts or anything for about five months. One day I started to get dropouts and my speed dropped substantially. Since then I've had all the copper in my house ripped out except for one line to the modem.

Can anyone here theorise about the source? I've attached graphs.

Sadly I don't have any data from before the service went bad :(

You will/could lose sync rate over time due to cross talkers. I started with a sync of 79. Now at 69.  The loss in my case was due to cross talkers knocking my line performance down. What was your inital sync (not attainable) then and now. I guess you are quoting your attainable figures but you cant rely on these.

The initial sync was 104/46, the actual usable was 100/40, but thats due to configuration/limitations of the ISP. I'm now syncing at 68.7/32.8.

My area still has ADSL and voice running over adjacent lines, so I guess some crosstalk from that is expected until everyone gets pushed onto vdsl2 with vectoring.

The copper run from the DSLAM to the modem is just under 200m.

The issue was resolved, one wire of my pair was not connected...

Fixed!
