Author Topic: Changed vdsl modem cable from straight cable to cat5e and now sync speed dropped  (Read 1831 times)

Hi

I have changed my vdsl modems standard cable that comes with it that's not twisted that goes from modem to bt mk3 faceplate. I got a new cat5e cable that is shorter but I don't understand why my sync speed has dropped now. If I plug older one back in it jumps back up again.  It doesn't make sense.
I got another one incase faulty but still same results.

Can anybody understand why?

I too suffered a drop in sync when using a cat5e lead. I only use the standard modem cable..

Is the cable stranded or solid?

You've ruled out DLM, because you swapped back.

I've seen some mysterious things with modem-to-wallsocket patch cables, don't understand it.

I use these, and so do a few other kitizens

Solid cable if for infrastructure wiring - e.g. from RJ45 socket to RJ45 socket, not for patch leads from RJ45 socket to modem, or modem to router. The cable is probably not terminated correctly in the RJ45 or RJ11 plug.
