Bouncing SNR - seen this before?
« on: August 24, 2016, 03:02:12 PM »

Hi,
Before I start any detailed diagnostics I just wanted to see if the below is a common occurrence, and if so what causes it?

Had a Zyxcel 8324 (synced at 34mbps), which looked stable, but kept re-training about 10 times per day. Replaced with a Billion 8800NL (synced at 27mbps) which is re-training less often, but the SNR seems to be bouncing all over the place, as high as 9?

These are my current stats:
DSLAM/MSAN type:           BDCM:0xa48c / v0xa48c
Modem/router firmware:     Not reported
DSL mode:                  VDSL2 Profile 17a
Status:                    Showtime
Uptime:                     4 hours 11 min 53 sec
Resyncs:                   3 (since 23 Aug 2016 20:39:53)

            Downstream   Upstream
Line attenuation (dB):     23.7      0.0
Signal attenuation (dB):   Not available on VDSL2
Connection speed (kbps):   27352      8935
SNR margin (dB):           7.6      5.7
Power (dBm):               11.5      5.6
Interleave depth:          535      1
INP:                       3.00      0
G.INP:                     Not enabled      Not enabled
Vectoring status:          5 (VECT_UNCONFIGURED)

RSCorr/RS (%):             0.1217      0.0034
RSUnCorr/RS (%):           0.0000      0.0000
ES/hour:                   1.47      1.53

Any ideas?

Thanks,
AM.

Not common.

Interference on the line.

Is your line overhead?

It's funny you say this, as my Billion 8800NL (R1) seems to exhibit a very bouncy SNR too. I need to try another modem to see if it's the line or not...

Turn on AM radio and check if you hear noise.

As far as the Billion part of the graph goes, looks more like a possible HR/bad connection to me. I had a similar problem last week starting on the 17th (attached) and after some testing eventually discovered the NTE5 Mk2 faceplate seemed to be the problem with incoming phone calls also causing major drops. Changed it to a Mk3 I had and it all went away. May not be your problem of course.
