Author Topic: How long does it usually take for DLM to remove a banded profile?  (Read 2297 times)

My line has always been relatively noisy and before G.Inp was on an interleave profile and saw moderate error rates, but never enough for further intervention. Following the arrival of G.Inp this dropped to very few errors until this March. There then followed a 3 month period with very high errors that ultimately led to my line being banded at 35 meg. It continued to error for a couple of weeks after banding and then at end of June whatever was causing an issue on the line stopped and I am back to very low error rates. I have been green on error for about 5 weeks now, but I am still banded. Will this ever get lifted by DLM without intervention? I have my info on mydslwebstats (but patchy as don't upload when I am not home)

Aha, I've had exactly the same problem when performing maintenance on a BT Home Hub 5. Basically, DLM won't remove the banding. You have to try to convince your ISP's technical team that you need an Openreach broadband boost engineer visit so they can reset the DLM for you. Bear in mind, if the DLM reset is done, G.INP is unlikely to be reactivated for several weeks.

DLM really needs updating and become more dynamaic in how it handles a line. On non-banded things it usually changes things after a few days. But then on long term line issues seems to take weeks or months.. strange.

That is disappointing and a bit rubbish. Surely it should be flexible enough to know where intervention isn't needed any more? I only had one day over 1440 ES to get the banding in the first place and it did nothing for the issue. Not sure I want to risk being stuck on interleaving to get it fixed (nor pay a engineers callout charge) so will probably just leave well alone. It's only 5 meg :(

I wasn't charged for the Openreach broadband boost engineer visit, so you might get lucky.

William did they come in your home, or was it all done at the cabinet. I cant be bothered with the hassle of an engineer again coming in my house.

@peterj
Yes, for those of us who have watched DLM behaviour, the current style (with early banding, and almost never being removed) is indeed a little bit rubbish.

It used to be dynamic. Slow, but it would improve.

The reason behind the latest changes are somewhat obscure. But then DLM always has been obscure.
