ECI Equipped Cabinet - An Interesting Development
« on: June 16, 2016, 01:05:19 PM »

[Split from the original thread, as this topic is worthy of a thread in its own right.]

Well just had to follow this up after just over 2 months of losing g.inp from my eci line.....Just been told today that supposedly my ECI cabinet is being replaced with huawei kit and should be completed by the 20th June! - no doubt I will be keeping an eye on the cabinet as I really hope this is the case, would be very pleased if this is the result.....will keep you posted..believe it when I see it.  ;D ;D ;D

pic of my cab attached today pre any work should it actually take place. The fibre cab is a bit further along.

Would you be able to disclose your source of information, please?

I actually posted somewhere about this other week, but I can't remember which forum. :(
In general chit chat about cabs, source, said it was option that was being looked at.
I suppose it's delaying their plans, & in the long run it is a cheaper option to recab. :-X

If they start replacing the existing ECI cabinets with Huawie cabinets then there won't be much money left in Oprenreach's wallet to subsidize this G.FAST rollout in 2017.

I thought the ECI cabinets are connected to an ECI Element Manager, so if all the cabinets in an area are ECI, it would be more difficult to only replace a single cabinet with a Huawei, as there wouldn't be a Huawei Element Manager fairly nearby to connect it to.

Element managers are centrally located and are connected via an intranet. As long as the cabinet has an IP address it can be managed from anywhere.

In my exchange area it's ECI for everything except for BDUK cabinets.

If we take the recent news about the Huawei into consideration maybe they will replace them only in areas where they feel replacing a ECI 256 with a Huawei 384 would be easier than adding another cabinet due to high uptake.

Are those two Huawei's BDUK funded cabs... In Birmingham the rollout is all ECI but any done by BDUK scemes are Huawei
