That happened while the DSL was connected at the same speed?   If so that's a Bad thing, either noise increased by 6dB or signal strength dropped.

yes same speed, I obviously don't fully understand these figures  :-[ I was going to try a re-sync tomorrow  see what happens

ok found another strange glitch the margin drops and risers just by plugging or unplugging ethernet  cables even if they're not connected to anything ? tried it on 3 routers all the same  :no: but with no speed change up or down

Very strange, try a different ethernet cable as they can cause electrical interference...
