One drawback about the TD-W9980 is that its firmware does not support vectoring, and considering the model has been out for quite a while now, I don't think it's likely TP-Link are going to add it now.

Thanks guys,

I will follow those steps carefuly. What does vectoring mean? Is it something that HH5B or HG612 3B support?

Vectoring is a feature that hasn't been rolled out yet.

vectoring is a crosstalk cancelling technology. It appears to be supported by the HG612 running HW's latest unlocked firmware.

There are few reasons why I don't want to keep the HH5B, because it reboots every few days is the main reason. The others are lack of space and poor WiFi. I have tried everything, including changing channels but it won't help. Still buffering videos on youtube using wifi. I just want a router All in One and this one matches my budget and is G.INP compatible which is the most important thing. Also it looks like a £5.00 router :D

Have you tried a hard reset on the HH and naming the 2 WiFi bands different names?

The HH is generally quite good, though the HH5A has more mature firmware than the 5B

Hi,

Just switched the routers! Followed the istructions you gave me @mlmclaren really appreciated!

Gotta love this router. Everything worked immediately.

I pressume this is the latest update. There was the default configuration for BT VDSL.

Below are stats from 192.168.1.1. Everything is pretty much the same except DS rate which is now 39998 instead of 40000. Also DS Noise Margin went up to 10.7 with max attainable of about 50000 so gained about 0.5-1.0 dB

Your Welcome, I'm happy I could help, all looks good to me...

The onstream sync changing from 40000 to 39998 seems to be a weird thing with BT connections I find, when I had my HH5b replacement my sync changed from 79987 to 79998 and then when I changed that for my HG612 modem it changed to 79999...

Did you check the firmware was the latest?

Not sure if it is the latest but seems like it is.

Firmware Version @ 192.168.1.1 is  0.6.0 1.12 v0021.0 Build 150507 Rel.40130n

The firmware on TP Link website says TD-W9980_V1_160125 and was published on 25/01/16

Oh just seen someone's post on BT forum about this and it seems like I have the one published in May 2015 but at least the one that already supports G.INP

I am not really sure if there is any point upgrading to the latest one if the one that I already have supports G.INP.

The latest's one fixes are:

1.Fixed the bug that can not get the IPv6 Gateway within ZEN of UK.
2.Fixed the bug that DSL error packet shows abnormal.
3.Fixed the bug that can not get the DNSv6 and LAN IPv6 prefix automatically.

So nothing that I need. Do I?

You might need the IPv6 fixes, however whilst its recommended you have the latest firmware, I can understand not wanting to try fix something that isn't broken.

BT are rolling out IPv6 but I don't think its going to be too important that your router supports it, not to mention that BT probably only rolling it out to HH5's to start with anyway.

Well, I can update it any time anyway. Will power off router, unplug DSL lead, power it on just connected to my PC via ethernet, upgrade firmware then power it off again, will wait 30 minutes, then plug DSL lead in and power it on when 30 minutes has passed. It shouldn't upset DLM.
