Author Topic: G.INP enabled on my line @78/19 but speedtests never go higher than 60-65mbit  (Read 5066 times)

Confused here guys so need some clarification.

My ISP is Pulse8 and it's on the Talk Talk LLU on my exchange.

G.INP got recently enabled on my line and my stats are now 78967 down 18835 up but when I do speedtests from www.speedtest.net or www.thinkbroadband.com it peaks at 60-65mbit which is the same as it was before G.INP when it was synced at 69997 down.

I would of thought that I would be seeing around 70mbit + down now as the sync rate has increased?

What are the over heads for FTTC as I know VM synced at 160mbit or so to give me 152mit so I assume you have to knock off a few mbits here and there to get the actual maximum throughput but I am unsure what this figure is.

The speedtests are also the same 24/7 it peaks at 60-65mbit and that's it maxed out and I have never seen anymore than this.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=1459838795288660555
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5225681410

P.S Using 1gbit powerline adapters and they are synced at 255mbit each way.

And some stats thrown in for good measure.

Sounds like you IP Profile is stuck at a too low value, exactly the same happened to me.
Just power off your Router or Modem/Router for 32 mins and then power up again and see if it's worked  :)

32 mins is a very exact figure lol... will try and get this done this weekend then or doesn't it matter what time of day it's done at?

My experience of using speed testers has shown that the results can be very variable. I did a couple yesterday which were the first since I was G.INP'd at Easter. speedof.me was terrible with 34mbps down, thinkbroadband gave me 69mbps and TT's own gave me about 60mbps. My ISP is TT and its LLU with a sync of 71mbps. None of these speed tests actually match what my real world download speeds are when for example I download from the BBC Iplayer. I am of the opinion that most speed testers probably do more harm than good and worry folks. Sadly TT wont do anything if your speed on their tester shows OK even though your real world speeds are 50% or worse than the speed test results.

For me it's not a big deal I was just curious as I would of expected an increase in the maximum throughput I could get with G.INP enabled however I will more than likely take the approach of just leaving it and see what happens.

Do IP profiles eventually get unstuck if you leave everything alone for a period of time btw?

The real timing is more than 30 minutes which is two cycles of DLM checks on your line, DLM does this about once every 15 minutes. This stops DLM thinking there is a problem on your line with too many re-syncs in too shorter time.

Nice to know that I also heard that DLM can kick in at certain times of the day so if you powered off a modem/router for less than 30 minutes I.e reboot etc. So if it's off for more than 30 minutes at anytime of the day then DLM shouldn't kick in?

Anything over 30 mins will do, it just ensures that the DLM finds at least one 15 min interval with the line down so that it can attribute it to a user initiated Loss of Service and not a fault so it won't take any action....  Anytime will do but if your SNRM is up and down do it at its highest point.

There isn't an IP Profile on TalkTalk
? Isn't an IP Profile enforced on all lines running from the user to the exchange at the exchange by BT for operational reasons? TalkTalk's backhaul is after that so isn't involved so may not have a separate IP Profile, same applies to Sky presumably?

P.S Using 1gbit powerline adapters and they are synced at 255mbit each way.

Try using a cable connection. The synch speed of PL adaptors does not necessarily equate to the throughput. I suspect this is the bottleneck in your speed tests.

I will see if I can give it a go as my pc is upstairs and the router is downstairs however when I was on VM with their 150mbit connection it was 150bmit all day long (well until they over sold in my area) with the same powerline adapters but if I can I will get them ruled out.

As far as I'm aware BT have shoe-horned FTTC and FTTP connections into their IP Profile system so they can limit throughput any time they like. Obviously there's no requirement for an IP profile on FTTP as the connection just runs at full speed. I don't think Openreach have the concept of IP Profile either, just BT.

I don't recollect mentioning either FTTP or Openreach...

You said "from the user to the exchange", which is Openreach.
