the local authority are now looking to further boost connectivity to “ultrafast” levels (usually 100Mbps+ or Gigabit territory) by renting out their underground cable ducts to private investment.
How many local authorities have their own cable ducts. Around here afaik its only BT. The schools are usually left to sort their own if they want anything more than basic DSL. For eg, one school used bonding... and just 2 weeks ago I happened to spot an Openreach van and as I went past I could see a fibre tray stuck up from out of the duct... so of course I went to have a nose. Turns out he was connecting new leased line fibre to the High School. The OR guy wasnt from around here, but I watched as he connected up a piece of fibre that was not much thicker than one of the hairs on my head. I didn't stay too long - at one point whilst talking he accidentally unwound the neatly coiled fibre - it was a fiddly job and I didnt want to put him off his concentration.
