Is it possible to keep downstream snr under 6?
« on: February 08, 2016, 01:27:36 PM »

Hi, I have been experimenting with my line lately as I have set an Alert to tell me when my SNR has increased dramatically, this sends an email to my phone and I know when crosstalk has been removed.

You can see my latest sync rates on MyDSLWebStats, I have got it up to 74mb @ 4.8 SNR

Which I don't think would be too bad, but the cabinet seems to resync me a day or two later.
Now I am wondering does the cabinet resync you if you are under 6db or is it only if your line is being unstable?

i.e If there were absolutely no errors on the line. Would the cabinet have to resync the modem anyway?

Thanks

I recently just changed to the Zyxel 8924 from the billion. The Zyxel has disconnected three times today  >:(, and I have never been disconnected with the billion,
I have switched back to the billion and I may try this again, may have just been the Zyxel modem that was disconnecting.

The cabinet doesnt resync you if your SNRm is below 6dB

Theres 2 main possibilities
 1.  It will depend upon your errors and the type of errors.  There are various errors and error states and it could be the modem that goes into an alarm state which eventually causes the resync.
 2.  If you have been getting a lot of Errored Seconds, then the DLM will force a resync and adjust your profile.

Theres been many instances on MDWS whereby for some reason the SNRm has dipped below 6dB and the line will stay in sync for many weeks.  A typical example that I can recall is Ardvarks line lost SNRm due to some crosstalk, and it stayed in sync at the reduced SNRm for several weeks.

OK thanks for clearing that up. I belive its an issue with the Zyxel modem I just installed recently it was struggling to keep sync even at 6.5 SNR. Plugged in the Billion and all is back to normal for now anyway  :fingers:

That seems rather strange that it cant stay in sync.  Did it sync at a higher rate and was it experiencing lots of errors?

Which firmware are you using?

I am using Version 13 and its the VMG8924. To be honest I didn't really like it, I bought it as I was curious to see its sync rate compared to the billion.

Here is why I didn't like it:
-Turns out it syncs around 0.5mb to 1mb lower and has higher error rates.
-The UI was not as good as the billion, especially on an iPhone.
-Single telnet session.

So I think ill just sell it on eBay soon, and maybe just wait to try out the new Billion 8900.
I would like a decent router with a good modem and great 5ghz wireless.
