Hi all,
My parents have been having some issues / general slow speeds with their ADSL.
They are roughly 3.5km from the exchange and are on adsl2+, currently they are getting 2.5mb down and 0.8mb up. (Some estimates say up to 6mb, pinch of salt I know).
Attenuation 52.9
Snr margin 6.8
BT broadband and phone.
There is also some noise on the line that I can hear but they can't
I had a look whilst I was over at the weekend and the wiring probably isn't doing them any favours.
There are 3/4 cables running from the outside bt66 junction box. (Star wired?)
1 for the dinning room where the main phone is located, this looks like an old nte5 and has a master socket.
However only the a & b wires are present, no bell wire.
No extension cables run from here.
Another socket in the front room, not a nte5, cable runs outside to the bt66.
2 sockets in the office.
1 is active and the cable runs outside, not an nte5 box.
The other looks like an nte5 box but is an old disused number that was used for faxes in the 90s but I'm not sure where this cable goes at present, I lose track once it enters the loft.
So my question is would it by their or BT ISP, or even openreach to clean up the cabling (disconnect extensions) and install a shiney new nte5, not only to improve current speeds but also in preparation for possible fttc in the coming months?
The cabling has been like this for many years, at least the last 20.
Thanks in advance.
