Last night news broke that BT is set to be a likely takeover target for Deutsche Telekom according to senior industry executives and city analysts.

Speculation of a potential deal emerged as the German outfit is in advanced talks to merge its American arm, T-Mobile US, with the satellite pay-TV operator Dish Networks. If a deal is completed the likelihood of a BT takeover will increase.

A senior industry source claimed: “Deutsche Telekom is clearly is selling out of the US and clearly they don’t want to give the money back to shareholders, they want to use it in Europe. They want to buy BT.”

For all our moans and gripes about BT, and I know they have faults... but  they are one of the few British corporations that is successful at what they do and one of the best and most reputable Telco's in the world.  I'm not sure if I like all the massive [Euro] mergers and takeovers as it never seems to benefit the consumers.

I wouldnt worry kitz, one thing BT wont be done is swallowed up, the offer would have to be huge as its a cash cow.

DT just agreed to sell EE to BT, in return they get BT shares and a seat on the BT board, that might be what the article is using as an assumption for its claim.

The deal also meant that they became the major shareholder of BT which also gives them some clout.  Its weird that OFCOM has to regulate and decide whether BT can purchase the likes of EE, so they dont become too big.. yet is there anything in place for how big DT would become if it did buy BT?

I don't think GCHQ would ever allow that to occur . . .  :-X

Humour warning.

BT Customer care (DT Branch) to low use customers: "we have ways to make you talk!"

Imagine Kellys or Call centre speaking in Irish- German or Indo-German accents. :o ::) ;D
