Translation please
« on: January 27, 2015, 02:07:33 PM »

Could someone more clued up on BT speak than me please translate something for me.

Apparently the long term fault on my FTTC line is going to be fixed without a house call.  :) :-\

The exact message I got back from my ISP was "line test is failing on CIA so an LN engineer is being arranged".  ???

What does that mean exactly? Does it sound like they are making progress in finally sorting out the problem?

No idea what CIA is, other than a spy organisation ?? However, 'LN' is an abbreviated term (Local Network) that test systems throw out after 'looking' at the line conditions.

IE: The likelihood is the fault will be .................

EX=Exchange
CA= Customer Apparatus
LN= Underground cable
CAL= Customer Apps and Line

So I would suspect CIA is a test system your ISP uses ?? It wasn't CIDT they mentioned, could you have mis-heard ??

Ah possibly it is just their own internal system then - I couldn't find anything more by googling. I didn't see any mention of CIDT.

An Openreach engineer apparently did call at the house a few hours later  :o - even though I was out as I was told repairs would be handled externally.

His final diagnosis was that the wire between the pole and my house needed replacement, probably due to it rubbing against tree branches.
This will unfortunately need another engineer visit to be arranged.  :(
