As follow up, my speeds have continued to decline, from an initial circa 50/10 to current 33-ish / 9-ish.

I feel sure crosstalk is the culprit.   A few weeks ago we had a power cut that lasted several hours, after which I reconnected at 44 down.  I guess mine was the first connection.    Even at 33/9 I'd be reasonably happy, but  I also notice the fttc availability checkers, for my number and postcode, have revised themselves from 50/15 in September, to 26/6.    >:(

Maybe the 'FTTC' publicity machine should also be revising, from calling it 'superfast broadband' to 'slightly faster broadband'?   :D

I've noticed the BTW checker adjust itself down on my line since I first signed up two years ago.

I believe the checker does take crosstalk into consideration and it will be interesting to see what happens when vectoring is introduced!

BTW checker will not tell you if it has crosstalk or not? Only the GTC FTTC SERVICE test will tell you if the crosstalk is detected or not

That doesnt detect crosstalk even tho it has a line for it.

According to that GEA tester e.g. in the past I have had no fault "and" no crosstalk yet lost 40mbit of sync signal :)

I dont think I have ever seen a GEA test report crosstalk.

Crosstalk are seen below (not detected after GTC FTTC test)

I dont think I have ever seen a GEA test report crosstalk.

It is a rare occurrence, but I've probably had half a dozen faults raised against 'Excessive crosstalk', via the GEA test systems.

Well I assumed that's why the predictions decreased since I first signed up in 2012?

Used to have a solid 80 prediction now it's down to between 70 and 44.

I think the predictions have always factored in "predicted crosstalk" as it was very common for people to get sync speeds way above their estimate.

In recent year or two estimates have been changing because BTw now have live data to make those adjustments, I have seen these estimates move up and down.  It can happen both ways.  MY estimate when I signed up to plusnet was higher than when I joined infinity a year before.

I suspect that you may already be interleaved, as you know Im oop norf and my latency to the BBC is 14ms.

I'm darn sarf and my latency to the BBC is also 14 ms, so you could be right.

I'm about as far south east as you can go in England, being in Broadstairs and my non interleaved ping to BBC is around 15ms
