During a recent prowl around the items available for auction, two Spirent xDSL Testers were noticed --
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291280391324http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291280392623The first is an E2740 and the second is an E2570. A quick search for information turned up the following --
The E-Series of single-function copper analysis testers perform TDR,
RFL, and other copper fault analysis. The following products are
available online now:
-- Spirent E2740 Handheld ADSL Tester: The E2740 allows field
technicians to install and troubleshoot ADSL services at various
points in the network and enables technicians to verify service
metrics without back-office assistance.
<snip>
-- Spirent E2570 Combined TDR/RFL Handheld Tester: A unique,
battery-powered test instrument that combines the power of a
voltmeter, a TDR, insulation resistance, and RFL. With this series of
measurements, field technicians can quickly locate typical line faults
such as opens, shorts, and poor joints and locate high-resistance
insulation faults, including ground and battery contacts.

From that minimum of information, it appears that the
Spirent E2570 would be the more desirable of the two items.
As we already have the equipment to perform Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR), Resistive Fault Location (RFL), etc, neither

Bald_Eagle1 nor I will be making a bid.
