Firmware extraction guide?
« on: January 20, 2014, 09:19:32 PM »

Apologies if this is not in the correct forum, I wasn't 100% sure which one was appropriate.

I'm interested in learning how to extract the firmware from routers/modems and then eventually modifying the firmware for re flashing No idea where to start other than some brief info via Google. Does anyone have any pointers or guides they know of ? I'm not too shabby with technical things so not woried about getting my fingers dirty.

Im sorry I dont know of any guides, most of the stuff is spread across various parts of the interwebs as it can vary from device to device. :/   Asbo's site may be a good place to start as he normally documents everything.

I am very shabby on linux things and not able to help.  I have however tried a few things and have failed with most.  I am struggling to rebuild the HG612 toolkit that Asbokid has in his HG612hacking web site - ref. above.   I have the impression that I need to rebuild it to work on my 32bit system.  I am using ubuntu but only on a usb drive where I can do less damage!

If you decide to rebuild that toolkit for 32 bit please could you make it available? and perhaps add build readme's to the contents? - I might then learn what I must be doing wrong.

I posted a related question in http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=13130.195 but I guess Howlingwolf may not reading posts at the moment.
