Do I need to keep all these routers?
« on: December 11, 2013, 11:27:11 AM »

Just bid on two new fibre modems.

But I already have loads of routers :) do you think I need to keep older Netgears and BT Buisness hubs?

I am being serious, do you think any could be used again?

I also have a Billion 7800 but I think I could sell that one.

Well . . . I know that some people collect them.  ::)

But I won't mention any names. (Roseway, Asbokid, WalterGMW, Kitz, b*cat, etc).  :-X

How about posting a list of what you currently own? (Make and model.)

Yes, I do have a collection of modem/routers, most of which I'll never use again. I'm making a new year's resolution to reset their configurations and give them to a charity shop.

I wasn't mentioned :(.

I also have a museum's worth of routers, with room for more specimens, much to the dismay of the rest of my family!

Coffee for b'cat! :o It's full cream milk from cows fed on luscious Jersey or Guernsey meadow grass only for our b'cat.

I don't think it is that easy, they would have to PAT test them and that would cost  more than the value of the item.

Here we are trying to save the planet and you are forced to use landfill sites.

When I was in Spain recently I went into a few charity shops and they had loads of old computer gear.  Do you ever see much in ours?

Yes, I was wondering about that. I do occasionally see cheap electrical goods in charity shops, so it looks as though some are happy to take them. I'll do a bit of investigation.

Pat testing can be done in house if they have a fully trained person (does not have to be an electrician  ;) ).
You also have 'Freecycle' www.freecycle.org   ;) from which I have gained a small collection .

Or perhaps we could all consider selling our "excess stock" on eBay, with any profits made being donated to support this site:-\

That's a generous idea, and I'll gather my collection together and see if I think they're worth anything. But I'm sure Kitz wouldn't want anyone to feel obliged to join in. :)
