The 'Modified' one arrives on a scooter, wearing a long parka with a bulls-eye on the back.  ;D

Sorry, I don't have any idea what this could be ?? I'll be interested to know if anyone has a definite answer ??

Im not sure either, there is however an interesting page at adslnation which shows the components inside some of the common micro-filters.

Its quite surprising to see the difference between brands.

I'm wondering perhaps if the OP might be referring to the practice I've heard of when BTOR install their newest VDSL SSFP (which is also fine for ADSL) as part of troubleshooting broadband issues on an EU's line?

Interesting  :hmm:

That sound like a possibility, neilius, although the OP did say 'microfilter', which I assume means the rat tail type.

Perhaps rico can clarify?

The modified microfilter is identical to a normal adsl filter except for a sticker on the front which says "Extra Special Filter", saving ISPs huge sums in support costs as a result of the placebo effect on the performance of customers' broadband connections. One such customer with a particularly rubbish broadband connection has reported back to his ISP, "The new filter is magic, the lights on my router now flash much faster and I no longer bash my head against the wall waiting for downloads."
