http://www.upi.com/Science_News/Blog/2013/08/26/Aspartame-patent-reveals-E-coli-feces-used/8131377527919/

Quote
The patent refers to "cloned microorganisms" later revealed to be genetically modified E. coli bacteria. They are modified to produce an especially large peptide used to create aspartame.

The cultivated and well-fed bacteria then produce proteins which contain the aspartic acid-phenylalanine amino acid segment required to produce the sweetener.

The bacteria waste is then treated to turn the large peptide and a free carboxyl group into a dipeptide. The the dipeptides are then treated with alcohol and methanol to produce aspartame.

heh.. mike made me laugh.

TBH..  I hadnt really thought about it and Im not to go searching now, but something to do with lactic acid and lactic specific bacteria

Yep mould is also used... but I dont like blue cheese..  and yeah Im one of those that cuts the rind off brie. :-[

I know some people are lactose intolerant, but to me there's a difference between lactic bacteria and e.coli...  and there are also those that are unable to tolerate aspartame.

Ok I may not be right about cheese....  pleeeeeeeeeease dont tell me more...  I like cheese   :-X

Plus various amounts of animal stomach (rennet), bacteria, mould and other materials and flavourings.
And yoghurt usually uses bacteria as well, not to mention all these fancy "pro-" drinks that are supposedly good for your guts!

heh..  yoghurts and such...  I can deal with that...  after all these are 'friendly' bacteria arent they.  I like yoghurt :)

I like wine too, so the fermentation I can deal with.
Penicillin fights off the bad guys so I can cope with that too

GM e.coli...  I'm not so sure about..
nor the fact that Aspartame to me tastes very bitter with a horrible after taste.

We all have a large amount of E Coli inside us from a few hours after birth; it's just the harmful strains that we have to worry about.
