HH3 Down under
« on: December 17, 2012, 04:18:33 PM »

I have a spare Home HUB 3 still sealed up in its original box. It was given to me as a present because the anonymous giver thought I might like a spare. Now my son-in-law (who lives in Australia but is here in the UK for Christmas) needs a new router but I don't. Is it worth while letting him have it or will it be absolutely useless on a non BT and foreign network?
He knows that he will have to reconfigure it but is up against the old problem of extracting the things stats.  Any pointers please? Otherwise what do I do with it?

If it is a HH3.0B, then I would suggest it is kept in its unused state and eventually offered to an experimentalist once the details of Zach's exploit are made public.

I think your son-in-law will have problems attempting to use it in Australia because it is partially locked down (to Beattie's domain).

Thanks burakkucat.
I'm reluctant to break the seal and open the box but from information printed on the box it looks like a type A. I'll PM the serial number to anyone who wants it if that helps.
As far as taking it down under I rather thought it would be a futile exersise.
I'll put it back in the loft for the time being.
Thanks again.

The type 'B' that I possess did not come with its original box, so I am not sure what external markings may help to distinguish a 'B' from an 'A'.

I do know that an 'A' is driven by a Lantiq ARX168 and the MAC will disclose the manufacturer as Sagemcom, whilst the 'B' is driven by a Broadcom BCM6361 and the MAC will disclose the manufacturer as Huawei.

So if the MAC is marked on the outside of the box, then we have a way to identify the type of BT HH3.0 contained therein.  :)

That does report to be a Sagemcom, so it *should* be a type A Hub.

By using this helpful site, the first six characters of the MAC do indeed identify SAGEMCOM.

So, as biohead has already stated, you probably own a HH3.0A;)

OK Folks -  Thanks for your help. It is now back in the loft where it will stay until someone asks for it.
