IDNet or PlusNet
« on: November 08, 2012, 09:39:57 AM »

Hi,  I am a light-home user (<10gb download per month) currently with IDNet (broadband and phone) and getting good service but it costs just over £30 per month and if I switch to PlusNet the cost would come down to £16 per month on offer for 9 months and then £21 per month.  A big saving.    I am tempted to switch because it seems that both providers are merely renting the line from BT so the service and speed will be the same.
Any comments?  :-\

Any of the ISPs offering BT-based internet connections will be offering the same technical service. The differences come mainly in price and customer service, and broadly speaking you get what you pay for. When things go wrong you might be grateful for the higher level of personal UK-based service which the more expensive ISPs offer, but if things don't go wrong you can save a lot of money with a cheaper ISP.

Have you reviewed the various ISPs somewhere like http://www.thinkbroadband.com/, sites like this may give you an insight to the likely service from various ISPs.

Have jumped into the PlusNet pond and now on day 2.  The switch went seemlessly, as they say, and the download speed is up to 6.3mbs.
Have also paid for the 12 month line rental in advance so with the price increases due this month have almost halved the cost of broadband and telephone over the coming year.    It's a bargain  ;)
