How strange, for it was only two weeks ago that I was thinking about the problems which occurred when you migrated to a VDSL2 based service.

Now I see that it was essentially two years ago!

Morning all,

Thanks for all the replies.

@Burakkucat - that was strange, but "great minds think alike".

It has all been "purring" along quite nicely on my fibre service Mr Cat - no real complaints.  :)  ;)  :D  ;D  :P

Am sure Mr Cat will have a "purrfect" retort ready for that remark.

Jokes aside, all has been working well to be honest.

Could you possibly post your xdslcmd info --stats & xdslcmd info --pbParams data for us to have a look at & compare aginst your previous stats?

Quote
To confirm which versions you have currently, this command should provide the details:-

equipcmd swversion display

@Bald_Eagle1 - can you please kindly give me a reminder as to how and where I need to go and get these from via the unlocked hg612 modem?

I will pop back later to check for replies and will follow up with answers in due course.

Thanks.

Have a good day.

Assuming you are a Windows user, you could download & set up HG612 Modem Stats from the links here:-

http://www.freewarefiles.com/HG612-Modem-Stats_program_84567.html

Once set up, monitoring, graphing etc. can be fully automated.

Or you could open a command window & type "telnet 192.168.1.1"

Then type "admin" for username & "admin" for the password (the password part will be 'invisible').

Then type "sh" to get into busybox.

Then type the commands I listed above to see the stats, copy them & paste them here

All the above is case sensitive & do not use the quotation marks.

Alternatively, for Windows/Linux systems, you could use DSLStats (links to download it are here):-

Thanks Bald_Eagle1.

Tried to telnet in using 192.168.1.1 on Windows 8.1.

"Could not open connection to the host on port 23".

Telnet client and server are both installed (were disabled).

Now enabled on both Windows XP and Windows 8.1 and it still says no connection via port 23?  :o

Thanks.

I wonder if it could be due to how the cables are connected.

Earlier on in this thread you managed to to log in:-

http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=11464.msg221816#msg221816

It might be worth retracing those steps

Done all those steps again.

A network cable is STILL connected from the modem's LAN 2 port to a spare port on the Technicolor router??  :(

Looks like that the unlocked HG612 that I purchased from ebay has had a firmware update that has now locked me out of it.

I can no longer into the web interface by even typing 192.168.1.1.  >:(  :(

So, what do I do?

Do I:-

1. Kill the BT Agent software?

2. Re-flash the HG612? I have re-downloaded Asbokid's unlocked firmware from his blog.

Any help from you HG612 experts on here will be very much appreciated.

Thanks again.

The Web GUI was indeed disabled with the latest firmware & software updates.

However, access via telnet & the programs I mentioned should still be possible.

With the modem switched on, it might be worth trying a reset to default setting by pressing the reset button.

That should clear any other settings & make sure the modem's IP address is 192.168.1.1

If that fails, I would suggest reflashing with one of Howling Wolf's firmware images.

Download link is here:-

If you want the WEB GUI back again, download the obvious image stored in the BO30SP08 folder & reflash accordingly.

Thanks BE_1.

Will do this at 9pm.

Is this a LONG reset that I have read about on the Internet?

10 seconds and keep it held down?

Once done; do I then plug it all back in and try the 192.168.1.1 address again?

Please advise.

Thanks.

When you unplug the HG612 from power source remove the DSL cable and install it once all the steps have been completed to flash the HG612

follow these instruction http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/hg612unlock.htm

Thanks Newtron Star.

The sodding thing must have been remotely flashed by TR_069 or something.

Have now reflashed it again successfully and am back online, so thanks for all the pointers.

192.168.1.1 now works - modem opening page is now attached.

Bald_Eagle 1 will be happy.  :)  ;)  :D

How do I kill the TR_069 agent?

Methinks I need to kill it or disable it before PlusNet get in there again to diasable it.

Speed test:-

Methinks that's a whole load better.  :)  ;)  :D  ;D

Any thoughts and observations please?

A million thanks to everyone that have helped so far with this.

Much appreciated.

Firstly, it seems that I forgot to actually post the link to the unlocked, updated firmware version with GUI.

Here it is:-

https://mega.co.nz/#F!LdJFDIJL!e_E1twsIg2kTet8mPjrb4w

I don't know how to block BT Agent as I have never done it.

I personally prefer to allow my modem to receive any updates a) because they have genuinely seemed to improve reliability & speed & b) I need to be able to test my programs with any updated modem firmware versions the moment they are implemented.

It is highly likely that left as it is, your modem's firmware will be remotely updated & you will lose the GUI again.

I really would recommend using Howling Wolf's updated GUI firmware version.

The band plan tones will differ slightly, which do appear to allow a little more scope for higher DS sync speeds & your connection is certainly syncing at the hghest possible US speed, with plenty of spare US SNRM.

You have very little spare DS SNRM, so possibly having access to the revised band plans may give you a shade more DS sync speed.

Your current Discovery Phase band plans:-

Discovery Phase (Initial) Band Plan
US: (0,95) (868,1207) (1972,2783)
DS: (32,859) (1216,1963) (2792,3971)

The updated band plans:-

US: (7,32) (871,1205) (1972,2782)
DS: (33,859) (1216,1961) (2793,3970)

i.e. tones 33 to 859 are now entirely reserved for DS Bitloading with the updated firmware version whereas with your current firmware version, tones 32 to 95 are 'shared' with or they overlap with the first US band plan.

As these tones are at the lowest & 'strongest' frequencies, it may be an improvement if they could be used exclusively for DS Bitloading.

Regarding your actual stats, I can see your are currently on fastpath, but the connection hasn't yet been up long enough to assess various error counts.

I would recommend using at least one of the stats monitoring programs as the stats are provided both grphically & the raw stats are stored for close examination should the need ever arise.

They can happily run in tandem though, which would give you the best of both alternative views of your stats.

If you do wish to view the raw stats again, please run the commands separately as running the combined command (xdslcmd info --stats & xdslcmd info --pbParams) had caused the stats to become a little 'mixed'.

How can you tell as I really thought that I was on an interleaved line? I might be wrong. To be on Fastpath means that I'm on a good line? Am I right?

Thanks.

Any more thoughts welcome.

Regarding your actual stats, I can see your are currently on fastpath, but the connection hasn't yet been up long enough to assess various error counts.

Hi BE_1,

Thanks for the detailed comments. Very useful indeed.

Here's a set of stats from the unlocked HG612 modem (taken just now)

Connection Status

Mode    VDSL2
Traffic type    PTM
DSL synchronization status    Up
DSL up time    54438

Line Status

                             Downstream    Upstream
Attainable rate (kbit/s)   71336   26257
SNR margin (dB)           6.4           15.1
Line attenuation (dB)   0           0
Output power (dBmV)   13.9           7

Statistics

Path 0

Path 1
                     Downstream    Upstream    Downstream    Upstream
Line rate (kbit/s)   69748            19999    0                    0
CRC errors           0                    0            0                    0
FEC errors           1742                    9            0                    0
HEC errors           3693             0            0                    0

Unfortunately, there is a 'bug' in the HG612's GUI where it misreports the FEC & CRC data with incorrect (i.e. 'other') data.

How can you tell as I really thought that I was on an interleaved line? I might be wrong. To be on Fastpath means that I'm on a good line? Am I right?

The D: value is the interleaving depth.

Values of 1 = fastpath.

Values higher than 1 are the separate interleaving depths for DS & US.

Also, any values higher than zero for INP: & delay: in the info --stats data confirm that interleaving has been applied.
Yours are all zeros, so it confirms a fastpath connection.

If fastpath can be sustained, it does indeed confirm that the connection is relatively 'quiet', with little Impulse noise interference, therefore INP (Impulse Noise Protection) & any delay to allow for FEC (Forward Error Connection) are not needed

FEC (a.k.a. RSCorr) can be applied without interleaving being applied.

The original unlocked formware would often show low levels of US FEC on fatspath connections, but always showed zero FEC for DS.

The updated firmware versions do now show quite low levels of both US & DS FEC/RSCorr for some users' fastpath connections.
(I see them on my connection, currently on fastpath)

This appears to allow for some limited level of Forward Error Correction, whilst still allowing the connection to operate on fastpath.

Once a connection needs 'too much' FEC and/or it becomes 'noisier' or starts to be affected by Impulse interference, Interleaving, INP & delay will be applied at a level DLM determines to be necessary.

FYI, the AS: value is the connection's DSL up time since the last resync in seconds.

Very, very useful info indeed BE_1. There are some brilliant and learned people on there such as yourself and countless others who have given me such a great insight as to how all this works.

Much, much appreciated.

That's a great pointer too, for which thanks.

Now, onto the next scenario.

I think that things are currently working very, very well for me at the moment and I don't want to upset anything.

1. Would you agree?

2. Do you still recommend this new firmware option that you mentioned (and why?)

What would the benefits be for me?

Firstly, it seems that I forgot to actually post the link to the unlocked, updated firmware version with GUI.

Here it is:-

https://mega.co.nz/#F!LdJFDIJL!e_E1twsIg2kTet8mPjrb4w

I can do this if you say I should; no problem. But I don't want to be locked out by another TR_369 remote update.

The band plan tones will differ slightly, which do appear to allow a little more scope for higher DS sync speeds & your connection is certainly syncing at the highest possible US speed, with plenty of spare US SNRM.

This is one of the most obvious benefits, so is it worth downloading the new firmware and flashing it?

For the sake of how many megs?

Just wondered.

At the moment, I am more than "happy" (pun intended and playing on my username), so I want to see if this performance is sustained long term.

For the time that I am not actively using my connection, I suppose that I could give the new firmware a go to see what happens.

Any further thoughts from you and the other, learned PlusNet Kitizens on this would be most appreciated.

Cheers for the learning though; much appreciated.

Regards,

It's perhaps not so 'essential' for your decent looking connection other than:-

It does appear to manage bitswapping more efficiently. i.e. more bits are now swapped rather than simply marking tone bins as unused.

More 'accurate' logging data is provided.

Apparently the HG612's VPN 'bug' has been fixed.

It seems to allow low levels of FEC without always needing to apply interleaving, delay & INP which would effectively slow down throughput speeds & cause some 'lag'.

It does appear to improve stability & speed for longer connections, especially those around or below 40 Mbps sync speeds.

It might be worth a try just for comparison purposes.
You could always revert to a previous version if required.
