Hey guys... just found this thread. I've just got FTTC installed, but have been provided with an ECI modem so my HG612 is rather redundant.
Anywayyyyy.... My setup with a 612 was for a TalkTalk (LLU) line setup as a bridge, where PPPoE authentication and routing was performed on my Apple Time Capsule. Here are my settings:
Just got round to playing with this. There's a Linux one liner for using the Huawei in PPPoE bridge mode, with the ppp interface brought up on the PC:
pppd pty 'pppoe -I eth0' user anyone password mypass defaultroute replacedefaultroute usepeerdns
That works fine on TalkTalk LLU - and seems a little bit faster than with the Huawei supplying the ppp layer, maybe.

The
defaultroute and
replacedefaultroute options of
pppd cause the routing table to be modified automatically, and the
ppp interface becomes the new default gateway:

Ideally, the username and password should be tucked into the file
/etc/ppp/chap-secrets (so that they aren't visible using '
ps', etc.) But as TalkTalk LLU (and Openreach VDSL2) accept anything as a ppp/chap password, there aren't really any 'secrets' to worry about!
cheers, a
