Hmm . . .
That is odd.
I think that once I had initiated Step 12, I waited until I saw the lights on the
HG612 go out and then I disconnected the Ethernet cable from my laptop (essentially Step 13). At that point, I went for my evening meal and just left the modem connected to the power supply.
Upon my return, I reconnected the Ethernet cable to my laptop and power-cycled the
HG612. Once it was fully re-booted, I then went to the address
192.168.1.1 (Step 14) and obtained the GUI login screen (Figure 4).
The only thing of which I can think, that
may be the cause, is if the firmware image you have downloaded was corrupted in the process. Here are the various check-sums from my copy of the unlocked firmware file --
