Looking At These Video's Will Pass The Time Away On This Cold Day !.

I found these video's on a electrical web site the other day.
This one is a high voltage switch opening (Jacobs Ladder), It's designed to do that  :o, as the electric arc is stuck between the opening contacts the heat makes the arc rise and rise and rise, till it gets to a point it can no longer arc or re-strike then it goes out.

At about 10 years old, I had a bench in my parents greenhouse at the bottom of the garden and I set up a small 'jacob's ladder' with two 6" (150mm) lengths of copper wire connected to a car ignition coil and would get sparks of about 1" (25mm)  :).
