Routerstats Bits-Tone pages
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:20:02 PM »

On those pages one can select  either SNR or SNR margin. What are the differences between them and the individual purpose of each, please?

Secondly, although my connection is listed as ADSL2+, the graphs only cover up to tone 256. Before I could see up to 512.Any ideas how I can see the higher tones?

SNR is the actual ratio of signal to noise.

SNR margin (or noise margin) is the difference between the actual SNR and a base level of SNR. The base level is the level of SNR at which the error rate reaches a certain threshold, when measured under lab conditions.

So if the noise margin is 0 dB, the actual SNR equals the base level SNR, and this is expected to be around the level at which the router will be unable to continue to hold sync.

I'm afraid I can't answer your second question.

I've seen that a few times and managed to get it back by "playing around".
I think the key area is the Bits & SNT/Tone tab within the Tenet Router tab; there's an ADSL2+ button. Try turning it on and off?
There's also a "Mode" option on the Telnet tab in the configuration settings (cogwheel & spanner) - set that to ADSL2+.
