I currently have an Epson R800 printer which while capable of printing very well and high quality including on roll paper (A4 width) really bugs me because whenever I need to print a photo I have to clean the heads so many times it is almost that for every set of cartridges I use for printing I use another set for cleaning (and I use Epson cartridges not compatible ones).

I am just wondering what printers other folks use, and do you use them for high quality photo printing? I dont do much general printing, the odd letter etc and for my photo which are 6in by 4in I have a specialist dye-sub photo printer, so I need a printer which I can use occasionally (once or twice a month) for larger photos up to A4 and also on roll paper (or perhaps panorama paper) and that does not eat cartridges for cleaning!

Any suggestions?

I know this is not a direct answer to your question.....but will stick my oar in anyway...

I have two Epson printers hooked up, and am aware that they can, if permitted, use up ink by performing a nozzle clean when turned on.
Which is why mine never get turned off.......they have been powered up for months and I have never had a problem.
They do get used most days, but on occasions there has been lay off periods of up to about ten day.

Have you tried something like that.

After being disgusted with my last Epson printer - nozzles clagged up due to only being used occasionally,
and it wouldn't print a monochrome letter due to one of the colour cartridges being empty! -
I ditched it and bought an HP LaserJet 1010. After 3 years still on first toner cartridge and works flawlessly.
For colour prints I use the local Sainsburys. For occasional use it seems to me it's definitely the best/cheapest option.
