A Rogue's Gallery

Gentlefolk,
I wondered if the following data might be of any interest perhaps in a "Rogues Gallery" of different types of faults.
This series of pictures relates to yet another long horrible line in Ewhurst where we know we have significant problems with BT's aluminium cables.
This time the engineer decided to re-make 5 pairs of connections which seems to have cured the problem until the next time !
I would like to see big caution signs on such joints to warn the next engineer to proceed with great care.
One interesting phenomenon is that during the fault the phone line was dead but the splendid 2Wire 2700 HGV managed to sync most of the time.
One tell-tale characteristic is that the Routerstats lines have flat bottoms over quite some time indicating connection difficulties rather than spiky real-noise problems.
If anyone else would like to add anything please do so.
Kind regards,
Walter

Gentlefolk,
Jaydog recently asked what effects might be expected by placing a router upstairs.
Whilst every house will be slightly different
this is one I prepared earlier
for someone I was helping in Ewhurst. The house has a downstairs master socket plus at least 25 m of phone wiring through three slave sockets but with all ring wires removed. The current DG834 V3 modem is upstairs on the final socket. I recorded the DG834 V3 and then replaced it upstairs with my 2Wire HGV2700 running without authentication and then repeated the 2Wire recording in the downstairs test socket. In this case the test socket demonstrated a significant improvement.
I've attached a PDF summary below and the full screen shots are here:-
